摘 要
十九世纪后半叶，资本主义列强的坚船利炮打开了中国的大门，也同时粉碎了天朝美梦，从此国民饱受欺凌，国土被肆意分割，国家处于存亡之际，众多爱国志士纷纷开展各种形式的救国运动。蔡元培的美育思想也是在此时应运而生的，他一生都致力于教育救国，以唤醒国人麻木的心灵，虽屡遭挫败，但从未放弃。蔡元培是我国近代最早提倡美育的教育家，被称为“美育之父”.他倡导的美育思想是在结合中西方优秀思想的基础上产生的，具有其自身的特点和深刻的内涵，不仅对当时社会有重要影响，就算放在当代社会，对教育和社会发展也会有重要的启发作用。因此，对蔡元培美育思想的研究和探讨，具有重要现实意义和理论价值。
论文有五部分：
绪论部分：分别论述了对于蔡元培美育的研究起源、研究意义、研究方法，并对本文作了核心概念界定，以及通过分析以往关于蔡元培美育思想的研究文献，从中总结出之前研究的优缺点，继而阐明本文对蔡元培美育的研究有哪些创新之处。
第一章，介绍了蔡元培的美育思想是在特定的历史环境下应运而生的，而它又是经过了中西方文化的碰撞，既结合了西方文化的先进思想，又汲取了传统文化的精髓，所以蔡元培的美育思想才有其独特的特点。
第二章，通过分别介绍美术、美感、美育三者的联系及区别；以及以美育代宗教的思想；文化运动不要忘了美育；美育实施的内容充分阐明蔡元培美育思想的基本内涵。
第三章，通过论述蔡元培美育的独立性，以及美育对现当代社会都有重要的教育意义，蔡元培美育的普遍性和超脱性，功利性和超功利性的统一，分析蔡元培美育思想的基本特点。
第四章，主要探讨了蔡元培美育思想对当代的意义，分别阐述了蔡元培美育思想对当代教育的影响和对社会精神文明建设方面的意义。对教育方面的影响包括：家庭教育和学校教育的影响；对社会精神建设方面的意义包括：增加设施来培养人民的素质和通过环境的美化来陶冶人民的情感。
总结部分，通过上述研究论述，对蔡元培的美育思想的理论意义和当代影响进行了全面的总结和评价。
