摘 要
自哲学发生语言转向以来，语言的意义问题一直是哲学家关注的焦点。作为当代美国最着名的分析哲学家之一，塞尔致力于对专名意义和指称问题的研究。塞尔的专名指称理论经历了从描述理论到意向性理论的转变，在整个指称理论的发展过程中占据着重要地位。本文是对塞尔专名指称理论的系统研究，从专名指称的基本问题出发，通过分析塞尔在不同时期的着作中对指称问题的阐述，将其理论分为前后两个时期：簇描述理论时期和意向性理论时期，对每一时期的主要思想分别加以论述，并对其思想转变的原因进行了分析说明。
前期的塞尔发展了弗雷格和罗素的描述理论，从专名使用实践出发考察专名的指称，提出了簇描述理论，通过簇摹状词的概念来说明专名的指称机制；后期则转向对心灵哲学的研究，将意向性理论运用到对专名指称的说明中，提出了意向性指称理论，强调意向内容在确定专名指称的过程中发挥的重要作用。本文重点研究了塞尔的意向性指称理论，运用比较分析的方法，通过对比意向性理论与描述理论、因果历史理论的区别和联系，总结出其理论实质；接着从心灵内容与语义内容的关系、专名指称研究的语用学转向以及意向内容的公共性与私人性三个角度对其理论的贡献和不足之处加以阐释，从而为指称理论的进一步发展提供一个可能的方向。

Abstract
Since the linguistic turn of philosophy, the issues about the meaning of language hasbeen the focus of what philosophers concern about. As one of the most famouscontemporary analytic philosophers in America, Searle is committed to the study of propernames. Searle’s reference theory experienced a trasition from the description theory to theintentionality theory. This paper systematically reviews Searle’s reference theory of propernames. Starting from the basic problem, this paper analyzes Searle’s theory aboutreference in different books and divides his theory into two periods: the theory of clusterdescriptions and the intentionality theory, expounding the theoretical perspectives in eachperiods and showing the reason of the transition.
In the early period, Searle developed Frege and Russell's description theory andinspected the reference of proper names from the use of them and proposed the theory ofcluster descriptions, illustrating the referring mechanisms of proper names through theconcept of a cluster descriptive words. In the late period, Searle turned to the study of thephilosophy of mind. He replaced the cluster of descriptive words with the intentionality,emphasizing the important role of intention contents in determining the reference ofproper names. This paper focuses on Searle's intentionality theory, by the method ofcomparative analysis, comparing Searle's intentionality theory with the theory ofdescription and the causal theory of proper names, finding out the essence of theintentionality theory. Then from the perspectives of the relationship between the mind’scontent and the semantic content, the pragmatic turn of the research on reference and thecollective and individual property of intentional content, this paper analyzes thecontributions and shortcomings of the theory, so as to show a possible direction for furtherdevelopment of the reference theory.
